Job Description:

Under the direction of the Manager of the Logistics section, the specialist will coordinate logistic supply functions within Houston Forensic Science Center (HFSC), including, but not limited to, receiving, inventorying, managing, recording, and distributing incoming merchandise, equipment, or other goods. Specific duties may include, but not be limited to performing the following duties with little or no direct supervision:

  • Receives goods and services; unpacks, examines and routes incoming shipments to appropriate division, escorting delivery personnel as needed, or makes arrangements for pick-up by the division who made request.
  • Matches receiving document to purchase order and to items or services received.
  • Notes and reports defective materials or items in questionable condition, shortages and overages. Contacts vendor, and to Accounts Payable personnel, who will adjust vendor’s invoice.
  • Performs computer entry to track receipts and provides Accounts Payable with packing slips.
  • Assists in supply management and distribution of consumable and durable items.
  • Maintains, checks, validates and updates packing list receipts in multiple systems
  • Maintains effective communication between customer service, manufacturing operations, and land transportation to effectively provide answers to inquiries regarding equipment availability and transportation requirements. 
  • Performs other duties as requested

Experience and Skills:


Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in a business-related field is required.  Relevant years of experience in the field of logistics may be considered in lieu of degree. 



Minimum three years’ experience, which must include responsibilities and work related to the receiving portion of the procurement process as well as inventory control of fixed assets.



  • Demonstrated Proficiency with Microsoft products such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks software is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication
  • Demonstrated skill in using computers and related software applications
  • Demonstrated skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing work assignments
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively handle conflict and uncertain situations
  • Demonstrated ability to work with frequent interruptions and changing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective communications and working relationships with internal and external customers
