Job Description:

The Multimedia Section Support Specialist performs clerical and administrative tasks related to the Multimedia Section. Generally, he/she utilizes standard procedures to perform tasks under the guidance and direction of the section supervisor. The Specialist will exercise sound judgement to execute tasks involving problem solving and maintain the confidentiality of all cases received. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Responds to emails, callers, and visitors in a courteous manner, providing a correct and timely response if possible or routing to the appropriate source for a timely and accurate response.
  • Coordinates responses to court orders, subpoenas, and discovery requests, enlisting the assistance of HFSC personnel to compile the requested records in a timely manner.
  • Creates cases from outside agencies, Harris County District Attorney’s Office, and/or the Houston Police Department in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and/or Portal system.
  • Intakes and/or releases evidence from/to agency representatives and outside agencies. Ensures chain of custody requirements are met during various stages of evidence handling.
  • Prioritizes and organizes cases in the Multimedia evidence room.
  • Assists in the Multimedia Section’s purchasing including, but not limited to making purchases for supplies for the unit, making purchase requests, tracking spending within the section for supplies, and creating the proper workflows.
  • Adheres to the Multimedia Section’s Standard Operating Procedures and the HFSC Quality Manual.
  • Scheduling the maintenance of the section’s assigned vehicles.
  • Performs Section inventories including, but not limited to: evidence room and equipment.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

Experience and Skills:


Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required. Relevant work experience in a forensic or law enforcement environment may be considered in lieu of educational requirement.



  • A minimum of one (1) year experience related to administrative tasks and customer service.
  • Proficient knowledge and ability in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word and Excel.

Preferred Experience

  • Forensic laboratory or law enforcement environment and evidence handling experience.
  • Ability and knowledge of different forensic software systems including, but not limited to: Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Basic knowledge of the digital and multimedia discipline


  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong technical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and the ability to learn new processes and systems quickly
  • Demonstrated skill in planning, organizing, drafting, and editing written documents
  • Excellent time management skills, including ability to multi-task and prioritize essential tasks.
  • Demonstrated skill in effectively utilizing technology and related software applications, with proven expertise in Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a challenging and dynamic work environment
